Sports goals: walk 100km, bike 150km and more

Sports goals in 2016

I’ve read in sports articles that if you want to reach you sports goals you’ll have to list them up, so that you can have a guide when you are looking over a longer periode of time. So mine are listed below:

  • Dodentocht (100km)
  • Bike (150-200km)
  • MMA fight (tryout)
  • Lead the FSCA (chairman)

Dodentocht (100km)

On the 15th of February, I will be starting to train for the longest walk in my life. The ‘Dodentocht’ (translated: Dead tour) will kick-off on the 12th of August @8pm. There will be ten thousands of walkers who are going to attempt to cover the 100km within 24hours. I’ve been told that more than half will not finish this tour.

Bike a new distance record (150-200km)

I had a blast during my vacation in the Philippines. Its so obvious that you could see it on my physic. I gained weight by letting myself go. All of the yummy Filipino foods passed in front of me didn’t had a chance to survive. With all of that I’ve decided to list some sports goals.

So now since the beginning of the year, I’ve been looking after my weight and condition.

In the last years my longest ride with race bicycle was around 130km (my strava longest ride) So this year I want to challenge myself to set a new record of doing 150-200km in one ride.

MMA fight (tryout)

Somewhere in the end of 2015 I’ve found some interest in MMA fights thanks to Conan Mcgregor. He has made some hypes in the UFC. What I really like about this sport is the rawness, No faking, fighting until knockouts or submission.

In the past if the sport would attract me, I would surely try it out.

Lead the FSCA (chairman)

A lot of people in the community believe that I could change the FSCA organization. I always dreamt of leading a group. Especially a group that is connected with the Filipino community. I had an ambition to bring the organization into a new level of structure. All of this is not possible without the help of my fellow committee members.

My goals are to bring more variety and make the group bigger. As of now I’m bringing better communication tools and creating a transparent management.

So these are my personal sport goals for 2016. Care to share yours? Let me know by replying below!

Google Apps: how to work with it? Collaboration at its best

Google Apps (or Drive for Work) is becoming the more significant office suite. It has so much more to offer than its competitors out there. And yes indeed it still premature, but it is getting there. Weekly updates in its ecosystem it shall gently position itself into the market.

Yes, I am one the millennials who grew up with the ‘internet’ and had to use Word and Excel like the million other users. Don’t get me wrong those tools were the best tools around at that time, but now it’s time to pass on the scepter.

In Drive (the file share environment) you can place of your files. Including Docs, Sheet, Forms and Slides.  And these tools are so easy to use because of the low user adaption. As a matter of fact these are the tools we already got to use in the consumer world.

Collaboration with Google Apps

The best thing about Google Apps is the collaboration. It works so fast, easy and smooth. Even though your co-worker can be miles away in a different country, it still feels like you are sitting in the same office space.

Getting projects done in matter of minutes or hours instead of days. Without Google Apps we would be creating files, sending it by email to the next person in line (serial working) The problem with that is, people will lose a lot of time and you will create different version of the file. Working together doesn’t have to be that cumbersome. In the Drive editors you’ll in parallel, one version – one file.

At Translucid we want to help you and your company with end-to-end solutions and to get you on the Google wave. Be more productive and efficient in the workspace!

Hanging out at LionMakerStudios

My wife was out of town and I just finished working. So I called up mr. LionMaker to see what he was doing and invited myself over (Yes I can do that)

I had to be there anyway because I was making his (new) website and I still needed some information on how content had to look like. I arrived at his place and saw  this pretty big crossbow lying on the floor. It was a cool toy, but at the same time a dangerous weapon. He said that it was broken… “But hey no worries the other one is repaired” he said. So this means he broke the first one and had it fixed and now the second one that was at his place was also broken. He apparently have tightened the crossbow and “accidentally” fired it, so the string, as we may call it that way, shattered.

As we discussed the plans of the LionMakerStudios website, we came to a lot of ideas to implement. One of them was adding a “Now Live” Twitch button / icon on the front page. I never heard about this Twitch, so I went on a research to know how this would work…

In the meantime I wanted to pull a prank with mr. LionMaker… I told him I could deliver him a “Verified” Twitter badge within minutes. Little did he know that I was just going to emulate it (temporary adding it with ‘html’ code)

After that he was editing the milestone video. He told me that it was so difficult to make because he wanted it to be perfect. And the result was there. Every time he finished a scene he would ask me if it was any good. I gave him my advise on particular parts of the video which need more attention (mostly sound scenes)

The video still needed a final editing work done by a colleague YouTuber before it could be published on YouTube.

It was nice being a part of it. Even as a ‘non-Mine-Craft-fan’ it was an experience full with action and suspense. link to the vid

Social Media marketing – why use it? why should i care? You should care because …

Social Media marketingSocial Media marketing – God send or a just a total menace?

As we see companies grow and other stay small is due to the fact that most of the entrepreneurs are not willing to adapt to the new wave of doing business. It’s so obvious that the older business owners are not open to the new media that is sweeping the world.

It’s because this generation doesn’t want to learn anything new, you can’t learn an old dog new tricks they say. Especially if they are not really willing to adapt to it. And you might have heard it once or twice that they did business for a long time (comfort zone)

here is an graph art about social media and it’s age group users

Anyways I’m not aiming this rant at these generation, but I want to point out that the new generation entrepreneurs should be using social media marketing and this is why…

SEO = social media marketing + linkbuilding + content + nice code

So as you can see in the header above, social media is 1/4 of SEO (search engine optimalisation / search engine ranking)

If you are not on top the SERP (search engine result page) then your business is likely to extinct.
